Swim Team

I have wanted to try the boys in swim team for a couple of summers. I decided this would be a great year and it was a wonderful decision. The age bracket was 8 & under so the boys swam together. Miles was the top dog and Mason loved it. I have tons of pictures of my swimmers and will break it up over several post for each boy.

I will start with Mason. I was just shocked by him as I am often during life with my little man. He has always had wonderful form when swimming and did an amazing job at swim team. I hope to remember his first swim meet forever so please bear with my long details. We have practice every morning at 8:30 and lots of mornings the water is cold and the sun is not out yet. Mason is always the last kid in the pool and used tons of bathroom breaks, he swims slow and is always the last to complete the drills. On the night of our first event he was very nervous, pacing and eager to get his first swim over with. So he gets on the swim blocks and looks petrified. I was afraid he was going to freak out. I got his attention and waved at him, I was waiting at other end of pool. I told/spoke loudly for him to swim to me. He dives a perfect dive to begin his first ever 25 meter freestyle and swims to me. Oh my stars he flew through the water. He took like 3 breaths and beat everyone by 2 body lengths. When he looked up at me at the end of the race he was stunned. He had no idea he won. He told me he was so scared he just swam as fast as he could. Needless to say everyone was shocked. He continued to be a great freestyle swimmer.

Mason swam 3 races most meet. He swam the 25 free, 25 back and 25 meter free relay, where 4 boys swam the length of the pool.

Look at my boy! When he is nervous his hand automatically goes to that position. We have a habit we need to work on.

Here is a video of him swimming a 25 meter freestyle. He is in the 2nd lane closest to the wall.
