New York Trip-Part 1

When we left IOP we headed on the 16 hour trip to Long Island, NY. That is where Tom is from and the kids have never been there. Tom has a cousin who was getting married so we thought it would be a great time to take the kids. We spent a couple days on Long Island then 2 days and 1 night in New York City. We had so much fun that it will be many posts to cover all our fun.

First off we went to Sagmore Hill, which is the home of Theodore Roosevelt's . He vacationed there while in office and retired there. It was so educational and fun. The house is beautiful and is preserved just as it was when they lived there because the day of Mrs. Roosevelt's death it was turned into a museum so it is very authentic. President Roosevelt was an avid reader. He read about 3 hours a day. He thought if you weren’t reading every day your were wasting your time. He was also a great hunter. The home is full of his prize kills. We all enjoyed seeing the house.

After we left Roosevelt’s house Tom took us to the public beach he went to when he was growing up. It was June 11th and overcast with a cold front that day. The water was so cold, but the boys, especially Mason could not stay out of it.

The kids loved seeing the beach up North. We also say the house Tom grew up in and the junkyard that started the family’s business of junk.
